During the interview you can type: again, hint or stop.

The questions are an estimate: the real interview may go differently.

Questions to expect in IT

  1. 1Tell me about an outage you resolved.

What the recruiter wants to hear: How fast you found the cause, how you kept users informed and what you did to prevent a repeat.

  2. 2How do you explain a technical issue to someone without IT knowledge?

What the recruiter wants to hear: Show it right there, in plain language.

  3. 3How do you prioritise when five tickets arrive at once?

What the recruiter wants to hear: Impact and urgency, and how you manage expectations.

  4. 4What do you do for security in your daily work?

What the recruiter wants to hear: Concrete measures: patching, permissions, backups, awareness.

Answer with STAR: the situation, your task, what you did and the result. Without a result, an example falls flat.

Questions that come up in every interview

  1. 1Tell me about yourself.

What the recruiter wants to hear: Two minutes: what you do now, one result you are proud of and why this role is the logical next step. Not your life story.

  2. 2Why do you want to work here?

What the recruiter wants to hear: Something specific about this company or role that you actually looked up, linked to what you bring.

  3. 3What is your biggest weakness?

What the recruiter wants to hear: A real weakness that does not block the job, and what you actually do about it. Nobody believes 'perfectionism'.

  4. 4Tell me about a time something went wrong.

What the recruiter wants to hear: Use STAR: situation, task, action, result. Focus on what you did and what you learned, without blaming others.

  5. 5Why are you leaving your current employer?

What the recruiter wants to hear: Where you want to go, not what you are running from. Never negative about your current boss.

  6. 6What are your salary expectations?

What the recruiter wants to hear: A range backed by real salaries for this role and region, and your current pay if it helps.

  7. 7Where do you see yourself in five years?

What the recruiter wants to hear: Growth that fits what this company can offer. Show you will not leave after a year.

  8. 8Do you have any questions for us?

What the recruiter wants to hear: Always yes. Ask about the first three months, the team or why the previous person left.
