Frequently asked questions

How long should a CV be?

One to two A4 pages. With less than ten years of experience it usually fits on one page. Recruiters skim a CV first, so what's at the top counts most. The CV builder shows how many pages your CV is.

How does the CV score work?

The score counts eleven checks recruiters and applicant tracking systems care about: full contact details, a job title, a profile of two to four sentences, two to six points per job, results in numbers, education, five to fifteen skills, languages, two pages at most and no clichés like "team player" or "hard-working". Every check that isn't met yet tells you what to do.

Should you put a photo on your CV?

In the Netherlands you may, but you don't have to. Many employers and most international companies prefer no photo, to avoid bias. That's why the CV builder has no photo.

Why no charts or icons?

Many employers use an applicant tracking system that reads your CV. Tables, skill bars, icons and text in images often go wrong there. Every template is plain text, so it reads well, and still looks sharp.

Where is my data kept?

Your CVs are stored in your Carisly account, so you can find them on any device and keep a tailored version for each job. Only you can see them. If you delete a CV, it's gone.
