Questions to expect in Engineering
1Describe a technical problem you solved from start to finish.
What the recruiter wants to hear: Your approach step by step: analysis, choices, calculation or test, and the measurable result.
2How do you handle a design that must meet both budget and deadline?
What the recruiter wants to hear: How you make trade-offs and who you involve when both cannot be met.
3Which software and standards do you work with?
What the recruiter wants to hear: Concrete: packages (e.g. CAD, FEA), standards and how long you have used them. Honest about gaps.
4When was your design wrong, and what did you do?
What the recruiter wants to hear: Ownership and how you improved the process afterwards.
Answer with STAR: the situation, your task, what you did and the result. Without a result, an example falls flat.

1Tell me about yourself.
What the recruiter wants to hear: Two minutes: what you do now, one result you are proud of and why this role is the logical next step. Not your life story.
2Why do you want to work here?
What the recruiter wants to hear: Something specific about this company or role that you actually looked up, linked to what you bring.
3What is your biggest weakness?
What the recruiter wants to hear: A real weakness that does not block the job, and what you actually do about it. Nobody believes 'perfectionism'.
4Tell me about a time something went wrong.
What the recruiter wants to hear: Use STAR: situation, task, action, result. Focus on what you did and what you learned, without blaming others.
5Why are you leaving your current employer?
What the recruiter wants to hear: Where you want to go, not what you are running from. Never negative about your current boss.
6What are your salary expectations?
What the recruiter wants to hear: A range backed by real salaries for this role and region, and your current pay if it helps.
7Where do you see yourself in five years?
What the recruiter wants to hear: Growth that fits what this company can offer. Show you will not leave after a year.
8Do you have any questions for us?
What the recruiter wants to hear: Always yes. Ask about the first three months, the team or why the previous person left.
